Accelerating the development and deployment of technologies to decarbonize our economy is at the core of tackling climate change effectively at the speed required. Many of the technologies we need are already market-ready today, the challenge is how to scale them up fast. This is where OCI comes in.
We are proud to have recently partnered with the Institute for Sustainable Process Technology (ISPT) on a feasibility study on Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells (SOEC) technology, an emerging electrolysis technology that has the potential to be 20% more energy efficient than existing commercial electrolysis technology.
Our team investigated the integration of a 100MW Solid Oxide Electrolysis installation to produce hydrogen as the feedstock for one of our ammonia plants in Geleen, the Netherlands. We also evaluated the technical and economic impact of upscaling the process, which would be key to enabling the commercial viability of the technology and produce the volume of green hydrogen needed to meet the needs of the energy transition.
