The Environmental Specialist position is responsible for supporting compliance with Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations related to air, water, and waste materials.  Routine responsibilities include reviewing environmental compliance data, assist in managing the site’s waste program, assist in compiling emission event data for reporting, identifying non-compliance issues, and developing/implementing corrective actions.  This successful candidate will be tasked with assisting in implementing systems, policies, and procedures for ensuring compliance with Air and Waste applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations as well as adherence to company policies, procedures, and company best practices.

 

Your scope of responsibility

 

  • Responsible for implementing, coordinating, and managing compliance reporting for the facility.
  • Provides environmental technical support and guidance to plant management and supervision.
  • Assist and manage LDAR contract with P&ID review, component identification, and LDAR database tracking.
  • Ensure repairs/attempt repairs are coordinated and completed as required working with LDAR contractor and site maintenance/operations.
  • Supports the development, implementation and assessment of site Environmental systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Monthly compilation and analysis of KPI data to ensure compliance with operating permits, Environmental regulatory requirements, and EHS management systems.
  • Monitors and reviews applicable KPI data, trends, reports, etc.
  • Supports and participates in applicable PSM compliance activities such as MOC, PHA and PSSR.
  • Ensures thorough incident investigations are conducted and appropriate corrective/preventive actions implemented. Lead and/or participate in incident investigations as needed.
  • Supports the site incident management system.
  • Ensures proper characterizing waste streams as hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, or exempt/recycle materials.
  • Assist with maintaining the Notice of Registration (NOR), waste profiles, waste procedures, and waste manifesting.
  • Review Daily Environmental Reports from DCS.  Document any abnormalities as potential Title V Deviations.
  • Assist in managing OCI Beaumont Stormwater and Wastewater Systems.
  • Provide support during audits by fulfilling requests and responding to inquiries in a timely, accurate, and transparent manner. Participate in other non-safety and non-environmental plant activities as needed to improve performance in areas of safety, environmental, reliability, cost control, capital deployment, etc.
  • Assemble data for environmental compliance reports, general enforcement issues, metrics and performance tracking.  Prepare and submit these reports in a timely manner to meet required deadlines.
  • Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and an ability to work extra hours if needed.
  • In-field Environmental assessments, interactions, and support.
  • Agency Interface, Reponses, Audits.
  • Interact with local, state, and federal environmental agencies as required, including the preparation of permits and applications, waste generator registrations, regulatory plans, reporting, inspections, and notifications.
  • Assist with ISO 14001 Program
  • Assist other HSEQ personnel in the preparation of monthly/semi-annual/annual reports.
  • Update and lead environmental training programs.
  • If applicable, ability to work overtime may be needed to ensure required staffing capacity to meet objectives.
  • Act ethically and with integrity in every function.
  • Follow all relevant company policies and procedures.
  • Assists other Departments and other administrative personnel as necessary.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

 

What you bring to OCI

 

 

Education, Experience, and/or Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental or chemical engineering
  • Two (2) + years or more of related experience in TCEQ and/or EPA regulations

  • Computer skills—the ability to update spreadsheet programs, as well as working with e-mail at a highly proficient level. Experience with SAP preferred.

  • Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook required.

  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Ability to be on his/her feet for an 8-hour workday.
  • Ability to effectively communicate through various means required.

 

Environmental

  • Some work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Noise levels are typically moderate.

 

Travel

  • Less than 10% of the time.
