The Utility Engineer will apply their technical knowledge and operating experiences to troubleshoot and resolve utility related issues in a timely fashion for safe, stable, and optimized plant performance. The engineer will seek new ways to improve the operation by identifying utility improvement opportunities and executing approved projects with innovative and cost-effective solutions. The utility engineer is expected to have a strong work ethic and work independently with minimal oversight from supervision. The person in this role will be a leader in the organization and should conduct themselves professionally as they interact with all site personnel. Communication in this role is key to make the most of the engineer’s technical expertise and the conveyance of knowledge to others to enhance the technical capabilities throughout the operations organization.

 

Your Scope of responsibility

  • Utilize water process knowledge, data analysis tools and modeling skills to identify performance improvement opportunities and troubleshoot problems in manufacturing facilities.
  • Collect and organize data to report on boiler and cooling water KPI and correcting performance shortfalls to maintain mechanical integrity of fixed assets.
  • Identify ways to optimize performance or to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct research to develop new and cost-effective ways of solving common operating issues.
  • Support new project opportunities including steam/water quality requirements, system design, incoming and make-up water quality, proposed treatment programs, controls, and automation.
  • Lead the Management of change process for operational and technical changes.
  • Lead MOC and small capital project related Hazop Studies.
  • Participate in utility PHA studies.
  • Effectively communicate with all branches of the organization
  • Present a professional image at all times.
  • Follow all relevant company policies and procedures.

 

What you bring to OCI

 

Education, Experience, and/or Training

  • Degree in Engineering preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in utilities for plant manufacturing facilities.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Technical Skill – Demonstrate technical knowledge of utility systems and infrastructure such as boilers/steam/condensate, cooling tower, water filtration and water clarification.
  • Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Complex Problem Solving — identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Critical Thinking — using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Systems Evaluation — Identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system.

 

Software

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook required.

 

Physical

  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged amounts of time required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate through various means required.

 

Environmental

  • Work is performed within an office environment, including office equipment – such as computers, telephones and copiers.
  • Work is performed in the “field”, requiring proper safety equipment.
  • Requires passing by industrial equipment on way to office.
  • Noise levels are typically moderate.
