The Staff Process Safety Engineer will be a leader in driving OCI process safety programs.  This position will be responsible for working with key stakeholders in all departments, determining and defining requirements for critical process safety elements. This role will report to the sites PSM Manager and will be a member of the Technology department.

 

Your scope of responsibility

  • Evaluate the risks associated with chemical manufacturing processes and help to develop safe
    manufacturing protocols.
  • Serve as a resource for technical staff in the application of the Company’s Process Safety Management
    procedures.
  • Provide process safety support to operating plants, as well as ensure that process engineering standards
    and procedures are met during the development, design, and construction phases of a project and
    improved upon as necessary.
  • Management of Change (MOC) risk assessment review. Organize and deliver effective and efficient
    Process Safety Training (PSI, MOC, etc) as needed for stewardship of processes.
  • Assist/facilitate incident investigation teams in classifying process safety incidents. Provide
    support in the development of action plans to close identified Process Safety gaps.
  • Manage and conduct PHA/HAZOP programs, as well as track and assist with any resulting
    recommendations.
  • Understand and compile monthly Corporate PSM related KPI’s
  • Assist in maintaining and auditing Process Safety elements working with the assigned site element leads.
  • Perform risk analysis and coach others on the use of risk analysis techniques.
  • Champion a culture of Process Safety excellence at the company.
  • Provide project support as needed.
  • Collaborate with teams to discover and implement long-term process safety improvement efforts.
  • Work outside in the field as needed.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

What you bring to OCI

Education, Experience, and/or Training

  • 5+ years of experience preferred.  Experience preferred as plant owners’ employee in a continuous process industry, preferably chemicals or oil refining.
  • Degree in Engineering required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Solid understanding of Process Safety Management elements, practical knowledge leading hazard
    assessments and exposure to industry API Codes and Standards.
  • Familiarity with Management of Change (MOC), Risk Management and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)
    assessments, LOPA, and SIL
  • Fluent in managing and evaluating the applicability of technical safety/risk studies in projects. Experience
    with process hazards, failure mechanism and safeguards.
  • Knowledgeable in OSHA regulations, specifically Process Safety Management.
  • Knowledgeable in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA); participation, facilitation, and common analysis tools.
  • Ability to read and understand process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Proven ability to work successfully with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, engage, and facilitate workgroups, as well as manage interfaces with
    engineering consultants, on-site contractors, and operations employees.
  • Ability to manage different simultaneous efforts, prioritize on work with most business impact and
    eliminate nonvalue added work.
  • Technical skills to discover hazards to personnel, environment, and property in the workplace.
  • Solid computer skills including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Ability to promote process improvement.
  • Solid decision-making skills while knowing when to involve others in a decision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality is required.
  • Ability to handle high levels of stress

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook required.

 

Physical

  • Ability to sit for prolonged amounts of time required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate through various means required.

 

Environmental

  • Work is performed within an office environment, including office equipment – such as computers, telephones, and copiers.
  • Noise levels are typically moderate.

 

Work Schedule & Travel

  • Monday – Friday 8 hour days with an Optional 9/80s work schedule
  • May work longer hours to meet deadlines as necessary.
  • Willing to work call outs on plant needed basis.
  • Travel less than 10% of the time.
