UTILITY DAY SUPERVISOR

 

Help set and monitor performance criteria, objectives, and goals for the water treatment, pipelines, and Ammonia storage tanks in the areas of Safety, Environment, Performance and Production. Establishes continuous improvement programs for all utility areas. Together with Operations Superintendent, establishes daily direction and monitors utility activities on days. Engage in self-development activities and promote the development of others. Actively assist in the management of the Operations Department. Review procedures, direct and document training, coach, and counsel team members; coordinate operations activities with other facility departments and role model expected behavior.

Your scope of responsibility

  • Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
  • In the absence of the on-shift supervisor and step-up supervisors, may take shift responsibility and shift reporting on days.
  • When in the Shift Supervisor role, function as Incident Commander in Plant Emergencies, ensuring safety of personnel and damage to equipment and the environment are minimized, including making critical decisions on Plant Operability.
  • Observe work and monitor process conditions and KPIs for water treatment systems to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards.
  • Develop cadence and facilitate routine discussions with water treatment vendor, process engineering, and plant staff personnel to monitor water treatment performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives as related to water treatment, tank farms, as well as interconnecting pipelines.
  • Ensures Regulatory compliance is maintained for pipelines and ensures that dig calls.[AT1] are adequately communicated to the relevant authorities.
  • Ensures all pipeline logistics policies are well understood and followed.
  • Assist the Operations Maintenance Coordinator in developing long and short-term outage programs, such as outage Scope of work, marked-up P&IDs, etc.
  • Supports Superintendent with daily direction to shifts for all utility related items, water plant, gas nominations.
  • Works directly with business unit personnel and Operations Management to ensure feedstock and natural gas nominations are well established.
  • Monitors product tank outages to ensure logistics are well line-ed up with business unit personnel, providing short and long-term planning to the Operations Manager and Superintendent.
  • Conduct employee training in equipment operations or work and safety procedures or assign employee training to experienced workers.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers.
  • If acting Shift Supervisor, support environmental compliance by monitoring all facility emissions to ensure corrective action is taken when needed. Report all emergency releases that occur to the proper local, state, and federal authorities according to regulations.
  • Evaluate, with input from unit operators, any equipment problems that affect the operation of the facility. Determine when emergency maintenance is required and call out the appropriate people.
  • Review and discuss the lab test results with the operators to ensure corrective action is taken where needed. Report variances that require special attention by unit supervisors, engineering, or maintenance.
  • Manage the basic first aid needs of the employees and obtain medical assistance when needed.
  • In the absence of the Operations Manager, and the Operations Superintendent, the Utility shift supervisor will be responsible for daily operational decisions.
  • Provide various Operations Department-related reports as needed.
  • Direct staff and monitor any oversight.
  • Present a professional image at all times to clients and vendors and maintain a positive reputation of the company.
  • Follow all relevant company policies and procedures.
  • Assists other Departments and other administrative personnel, as necessary.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations

  • None required.

 

Education, Experience, and/or Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5-10 years operational leadership experience in a facility and thorough knowledge of modern facility processes required.
  • 3-5 years of console experience preferred.

  • Noise levels are typically moderate-to-loud.

 

Work Schedule

  • Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 4:30pm.
  • May work longer hours to meet deadlines, as necessary.

 

Travel

  • Less than 10% of the time.
