Analyzer Technician
Apply for roleOCIB is looking for an Analyzer Technician to join our Maintenance team in Beaumont, TX. This individual is responsible for analyzing, monitoring, operating, and troubleshooting the Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) and Process Analyzers. This is accomplished by executing assigned work according to planning and scheduling, noting any job plan deviations, and providing input on improvement opportunities. Preferred candidates will have chemical plant experience with emphasis on field instrumentation and analytical support.
Your scope of responsibility
- Accountable for personal safety, the safety of co-workers and promoting a safe work environment; responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.
- Support the maintenance operations work process in executing tasks.
- Provide technical expertise to assist in the troubleshooting and maintenance of:
- Continuous Emission Monitoring (CEMS),
- Gas Chromatographs
- Mass Spectrometer
- Flue Gas Monitoring (O2 & Combustibles)
- Liquid Analyzers: pH and conductivity, ORP, turbidity, silica, dissolved O2, TOC and Ammonia
- Communicate spare part needs; assist in establishing inventory levels necessary for equipment and assets in assigned areas; provide specifications to inventory control personnel as requested.
- Follow and adhere to all guidelines, regulations, requirements, and company environmental permits.
- Safety driven mentality with dedication to process safety systems integrity and availability.
- Adhere to LOTO and MOC procedures.
- Maintain an on-going familiarization with procedures, equipment, and processes through personal initiative.
- Execute scheduled work by:
- Reviewing assigned job scope for completeness and understanding.
- Acquiring all necessary parts, tools, and instructions prior to starting the job to maximize work efficiency.
- Following all necessary safety procedures and practices to isolate, clear, and work on plant equipment.
- Ensuring work is completed per company and industry standards.
- Working with equipment vendors to complete tasks in a safe and timely manner.
- Updating supervisor on job progress and any problems encountered in completing the defined scope of work.
- Completing all documentation using a computerized maintenance management system.
- Respond to tasks as directed by maintenance supervision with the appropriate sense of urgency to minimize impact to process units.
- Identify and implement reliability driven improvements. This may include participation in site reliability teams.
- Participate on committees completing investigations, policy, and procedure development, and improving the workplace environment.
- Mentor other electrical and mechanical maintenance technicians when necessary.
- Engage in frequent developmental dialog with supervisor and others to continually enhance personal and group performance and development.
- Follow company safety and health guidelines and other company policies.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license. Always ensure HR has a copy of a current, valid license on file.
What you bring to OCI
Education, Experience, and/or Training
- High School Diploma or equivalent as a minimum
- Preferred Associates Degree in Instrumentation
- 5+ years’ maintenance experience working with industrial process analyzers in the petrochemical or refining environment. NH3 and Methanol manufacturing experience a plus.
- Experience must be as plant owners’ employee in a continuous process industry, preferably chemicals or oil refining.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong adherence to and knowledge of industry safety standards. Active participation in ongoing development of safety improvement plans and training of staff.
- Ability to diagnose the cause of malfunction or failure of process analyzers and perform the necessary preventive maintenance or corrective maintenance.
- Working knowledge of all Federal, state, and local environmental regulations, requirements and guidelines including, but not limited to, RCRA requirements.
- Ability to read P&ID's, Spec sheets and loop sheets.
- Working knowledge with equipment such as Yokogawa CEMS and chromatographs, Thermo Fisher Scientific Mass-spec, Rosemount, and Ametek.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, TEAMS, PowerPoint).
- SAP experience a plus.
- Ability to provide overtime coverage and respond to plant callouts.
- Understand the principles of hazards area classifications and the proper equipment used in those areas.
- Familiar with HART communication protocols. IEC standards, ISA standards, PSM sites and process safety management, MOC procedures, and electrical and process LOTO.
- Proven ability to function within a project team, prioritizing/delegating work, driving productivity, setting the right expectation, and proactively overcoming obstacles in a complex project.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook required.
Physical
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Bending, kneeling, lifting up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to climb straight ladders. Some work may require heights more than 100 feet.
- Wearing industrial chemical plant uniforms and PPE as required.
- Wearing a respirator when/where required to perform inspections/job duties.
- Confined space entry may be required.
