Sr. Field Engineer

The Field Engineer in the ammonia industry is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing engineering projects related to ammonia production facilities. This role requires a degree in engineering, extensive knowledge of ammonia processes, and significant experience in managing engineering projects within the industry. The Field Engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects meet safety, quality, budget, and schedule requirements.
Essential Job Functions
At a minimum, tasks will include, but not limited to:
- Project Planning and Coordination
- Develop detailed project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocation tailored to the gases and ammonia industry.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure all aspects of each project are compatible and meet client requirements.
- Project Execution
- Lead and manage project teams to achieve project goals.
- Monitor project progress and make adjustments as needed to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Conduct risk management analysis specific to gas and ammonia projects to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Quality and Safety Assurance
- Ensure all projects comply with industry-specific safety and quality standards.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure adherence to project specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Implement industry best practices for safety and environmental protection.
- Communication and Reporting
- Maintain clear and effective communication with all stakeholders, including clients, team members, and senior management.
- Prepare and present project status reports to senior management and clients.
- Document all project activities and maintain comprehensive project files.
- Technical Support
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams.
- Review and approve technical drawings, specifications, and reports related to gas and ammonia production.
- Assist in the design and layout of project components, including process equipment and piping systems.
- Contract and Procurement Management
- Prepare requests for proposals (RFPs) and manage the bidding process.
- Evaluate contractor bids and make recommendations for awards.
- Oversee procurement of materials and equipment, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with project requirements.
- General Requirements
- Ability to climb straight ladders.
- Some work may require heights in excess of 100 feet.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Industrial chemical plant environment.
- Noise levels may require hearing protection.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license. Always ensure HR has a copy of a current, valid license on file.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Education, Experience, and/or Training
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Process Engineering is required.
- 5-10 years of experience in managing engineering projects within the gases and ammonia industry.
- Proven track record of successful project management in a similar industry.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Technical Skills
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, P&IDs, and specifications related to gas and ammonia production.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and best practices.
- Proficiency in project management software such as MS Project or Primavera (P6).

- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
- Leadership skills to motivate and guide project teams.
- Regulatory Knowledge
- Understanding of relevant industry regulations and standards, including those specific to gas and ammonia production.
- Ability to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Additional Requirements
- Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations
- PMP certification is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
- Software Proficiency
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) software is preferred.
- Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 30 lbs occasionally.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including field and office settings.
- Work Schedule & Travel
- Work Schedule: Standard 40-hour workweek with occasional overtime as needed.
- Travel: Occasional travel to project sites as required.
